500 days of summer: zooey's vintage wardrobe!

Over the holidays P. and I rented 500 Days of Summer. And while the movie had its cute moments and some annoying ones, overall I really was quite smitten with Zooey Deschanel's funky, vintage-inspired wardrobe. Yes, all of us Bloomers seem to have a major lady crush on Zooey and we have expressed our adoration here too. I am yearning for some Zooey bangs!

In the movie, her character Summer always wore a piece of blue clothing to match her eyes, according to costume designer Hope Hanafin
in this interview. And surprisingly, while many of her pieces were vintage, a lot of them came from Old Navy, GAP and BCBG. Read: it could actually be affordable to copy this cute movie star's style!

I admired the Tom character's outfit here too...despite the fact I found him a tad too needy/clingy {and it made me claustrophobic}. But I'm digging his stripey tie!

Shoes Off!

Shoes Off!
'Tis the season for holiday parties! And for fabulous party outfits that look really, really great with your new boots. But doesn't it always suck when you arrive at a party and you have to take your boots or shoes off? Your fab ensemble just isn't the same! Or worse - you have mismatched socks. Or even worse - a hole in the toe! I swear I will have a house one day with rugged hardwood floors throughout, fabulous parties and a 'Shoes On!' sign...they just look way cooler!

Many years ago I caught a short film on TV about this very predicament, and I happened to find it with Google! 'Shoes Off!' is only a 13 minute romantic comedy, but pretty cute {just ignore the annoying commercial at the beginning}. And how I identify with the girl in cool black boots who is reduced to awkward socks at a housewarming party! Any good solutions to this Bloomies?

crew cuts cute

Long gone are the days of turtlenecks and sweatshirts that I threw on as a kid apparently! I recently received a newsletter from Crewcuts {J. Crew's line of kid's clothing} and check out their kid's couture. Not 100% sure yet about dressing kids in adult-like clothing, but I have to admit...these looks are pretty darn adorable!

chocolate couture

Fashion...made of chocolate...am I dreaming?! Each year Cadbury holds Cadbury Couture - a chocolate fashion show where they team up with ten Canadian fashion designers who combine their love for cocoa and couture to create some sensational ensembles - each constructed using Cadbury chocolate! Here are some of my faves from past shows. Ok, now I'm having a major chocolate craving...gotta go!

wearing a larry

Last week Joelle Bloomer posted these super cool "larry" scarves on her blog. She saw it on Project Runway Canada - a beautiful chunky knit shawl worn by Kim Cathers. Apparently, a 'larry' is an over-sized hand-knit scarf, made in Vancouver using alpaca fleece. I don't care if they are called "larry" or "steve", I think they sure are divine, and would definitely wear one to keep my neck warm and fashionable on this cold blizzard-y day. A funky and casual winter bride might really look cool with a 'larry' - we're always scoping cool ways to warm up the brides we work with up on their wedding days!

clutch loving

This summer I had a few weddings to go to, and although I bought myself a nice new dress {emerald green from Banana Republic - yum}, I was really embarrassed about my clutch - an ugly faux leather handbag that I got from Aldo about 5 years ago. After a quick search on Etsy though, I have my eye on a few beauties by Red Ruby Rose! Check out the beautiful fabrics...there are TOO many to choose from!
