kate hudson's wedding dress in you, me and dupree

I love love love the wedding dress that Kate Hudson wears for 10 seconds in the movie You, Me and Dupree. I spent many a night (and a few work days) searching long and hard for it on the internet. Shamefully I was only able to come up with this picture of the top half of her dress. Can you believe that with all the hideous things posted out there, there was only this one measly pic of the most fab dress ever?! For a moment it kind of made me feel like I was special and had some really snazzy eye for spotting unique finds. But then my short-lived bubble was popped as I noticed there were hundreds of people talking on chat rooms about this dress because they too had equally astute snazzy eyes that also noticed the 10 second wedding dress. Alas...what it comes down to is that they might have equally snazzy eyes but they do not have an equally tech saavy sister who just happened to be able to download the movie and capture some stills of the dress of my dreams so I was able to have a seamstress replicate it for me! {UPDATE! See new pics of my replicated dress here, here, here and the making of it here!}

So for all those out there who have a snazzy eye but not a tech saavy sister....these are for you!

Thank heavens for this blog! Where did you find a seamstress to recreate the dress? I don't even know where to start. I tried googling "seamstress" in my hometown, but no luck. Any help would be grand! Thanks.

I'm glad to have helped at least one person who coveted this dress as much as I! I happened to know a talented seamstress I've used for the past couple of years who lives up near Newmarket. However, she is pregnant now so she arranged for a dance costume shop she works at to help her with it. I haven't actually gone for the first fitting yet so I don't know exactly how "replicated" its going to be!

Thanks for the response! I would love to hear more about the recreation journey. Please post pictures when it's finished. Now all I need to do is find a seamstress. I've got a friend who's majoring in costume design and maybe she can help me. Thanks for the help and I hope your dress turns out beautifully!

I think you costume designer friend would be a perfect place to start. I looked into other wedding designer/seamstresses and they were quoting a fortune. Its such a simple dress but because its a 'wedding dress' I think the price automatically goes up. I hope for both of us that they turn out as beautiful as the original design! I'll for sure post pics when I get them...fingers crossed!

thank you thank you thank you for this. why is it soo hard to find this dress? i wish i knew who the designer was...

The costume designer on this film was Karen Patch. She custom made the dress specifically for the film. She's a pretty big costume designer but I couldn't ever find a website or contact info...

You are amazing. I looked for weeks for movie stills, and trailer clips, and movie websites galore for pictures of this dress. What I finally ended up doing was googling the costume designers name 'karen patch' and finally found that ONE picture of the top half of the dress as well. You and I were in the same boat. Thank you so much for posting these pictures.

Hi,
I am also very glad I found this blog! I loved the dress when I first saw it in the movie and want to wear it to my wedding! How did things go with your costume designer? Did the dress turn out the way you had hoped? Do you have any pictures you want to post?
Thanks!

I'm actually going for my first fitting next week so fingers crossed its going to turn out as gorgeous as the original! I will definitely post pics once I have them but I think its just a structural fitting next week so it won't actually look like the dress yet. Probably will have pics to show from the next fitting though so stay tuned!

Can not believe there are this many of us who love this dress and how hard it is to get it!!! Can you tell me how much your seamstress charged to make this dress and how it turned out??? I have never had anything made so this is unchartered waters for me.
Thanks...Love your style!

Isn't it crazy? You wouldn't believe the amount of traffic this dress causes from all over the world! My seamstress is charging me $600 which I think is very very fair! I haven't seen it yet, my second fitting is end of April. I will definitely keep everyone posted...its unchartered territory for me as well!

I am a seamstress in Bellevue Washington and just sent a finished dress to a bride to be in California. Labor fee was $600.00 materials and shipping were $300.00
Contact info is barbprahl@msn.com. I have a navy & rose rayon mock up of the dress for sale. About a size 0/2. Skirt portion is 44" long finished.I have a few photos of the dress alone, but it will take a week or so before my client sends me a photo while she has it on.

Haha! (I commented previously about the vertical garden walls. The plants are Tillandsia - part of the Bromeliad family). I was also searching for pictures and found the same cropped shot of Kate Hudson and did the same thing you did - well, kind of. It was playing on HBO and I took pictures with my camera. (A little ghetto). I was trying to find pictures of her dress to show a friend. Crazy how many girls love this dress!

I'm sorry for leaving everyone waiting! I have just brought the dress home and it is most loverly...really beautiful in real life! The problem is...I want the first time Dan sees me in it to be on our wedding day so I can't post it because he reads the blog! But I swear I'll post many a picture right after the wedding. My apologies!

Hi
I too love the dress- its perfect for my wedding. Can I ask have you worn you 'made dress' yet? What material did you use as it look as though there is some print on the Kate Hudson one (or lace?) I am looking for a seamstress to make me one like it and wondered what meterials you chose and how it hung?
I too would love to see some pictures of your dress on you! Hope the wedding was just awesome!

Ok I just happen to be on the internet when You, Me and Dupree just came on and I seen the most beautiful wedding dress. I just had to google and find out where it was made. I found some other sites but your blog is by far the most informative and great pics. Thanks for that. I totally want to see your end result. Thanks again for the blog! Also CONGRATULATIONS!!

The end result is up! Check out the latest posts for all the dress details and pics. I'm going to post about the process once I round up all the pictures along the way so stay tuned.

I just found this blog, I had my dress made by a friend. It looks identical to this one!!! There was a lady on here that said she had a mock for sale, I know that was a couple years ago...but my dress got stolen during a move so having a mock is more then I have now!
