simple nature-inspired chuppahs: part II

Ever since Melanie Bloomer's Simple Nature-Inspired Chuppahs post a while back, I seem to be finding more and more nature-inspired alter decor! Whether it's a chuppah, a canopy, or just a beautiful structure to dress up the alter, I'm digging the natural twigs, branches and flowers used to construct them! So here is Part II of the series. Happy weekend!

{sadly the source of these photos escape me, but I do know the last photo is from the lovely Art Fool}.

the twilight prom

I enjoyed the mess of lights covering the ceiling of this gazebo.

I also enjoyed Edward...

Ok, so let's get this obsession overwith once and for all! I admit it, I am in love with the Twilight books. I've been warned to take a break before reading the last one, to ensure I get a reality dose. These books, they aren't just for teenagers - I swear - and I know all of you out there agree with me. Now, on the other hand, I watched the movie, and was completley unimpressed. I mean, it was rushed, it was silly and they just glossed over the intense emotions that made the books so wonderful! The only part I kind of liked was their prom gazebo. I thought the lights all criss-crossing in a crazy jumbled mess to form the ceiling was kind of pretty. Oh, and Edward too - he might have been my second favourite part. He's pretty too (don't worry Craig, you still are my Edward!). But prom-goers beware: This crazy romantically lit gazebo is not a cheap walk in the park in terms of decor - this took some hard design effort and some serious lighting material. That little high school in Forks must have quite a prom fund!

And to top it off, all proceeds from this campaign go directly to Rethink Breast Cancer - an organization dedicated to helping young people who are concerned about and affected by breast cancer through innovative breast cancer education, research and support programs.

dishware decor

What people tend to forget when decorating events is that the glassware and dishware on the dining tables really actually adds to the beauty of the table. And if you think about it, this should be true for our kitchens too. Should our dishware really be hidden away in cupboards? Instead of trinkets, why can't we display all our lovely dishes on our shelves for all to see! As I was combing through one of my favourite blogs, the City Sage, I noticed that many of the kitchens I fell love with actually had their dishware as part of the decor. I'm totally going to display my dish collections proudly in my new house! {all pics from The City Sage}

Well I guess its more carnival then circus but still...can you believe another person out there took their wedding to a vintage carnival?! And can you believe the similarity in invitation design?! I'd sure like to meet this couple...I bet we'd have a whole lotta good stuff to talk about! Wowza...they even rented a ferris wheel! Weeeeeee!

the spring wedding show!

inBloom Event Design is exhibiting at The Spring Wedding Show...an online wedding show hosted by The Wedding Co. that starts today and runs until May 31st. What a great idea to run the show online {and how lovely to not have to lug and set up a booth and stand on our feet for days!}.

Check out our 'booth' in the Decor & Rentals section and take a 'stroll in the park' complete with birdies tweeting. It's an adorable website.

jennifer aniston's wedding dress in marley and me

It's hot and sunny out today!! But I just watched Marley and Me, and I really loved Jennifer Aniston's snowy wedding dress, and can't rest easy until I post it for all to see. I mean, it's easier to think the snow is lovely and romantic when it's 28 degrees out, right? I love the shawl she wears. This is one thing I find lacking in the wedding industry...nice shawls to keep brides a bit warmer in the shivery cold. Send me some pics of nice shawls if you have any! The gown is designed by Carolina Boulton from Florida. Now seriously, what's really up with Jen's hair? How is it possible that she always, ALWAYS has glorious locks? This is starting to seem fishy...

purple and yellow

Tonight, as I watched American Idol (yay, Chris! I wanted him to win ...although Adam is excellent too), I played around with some fleurs for my dear friend, Helen, who gets to come home on Friday from Italy, after a harrowing trip where she fell very ill and had to stay in the hospital for an extended period of time. Every time I think of Helen, I think of purple - her purse is purple, my favourite dress of hers is purple...so I made her a bouquet of deep purple anemones (i LOVE anemones), purple orchids, and springy yellow ranunculus with yellow tulips in it - with a smattering of purple thistle of course. I had the nerve-wracking task of making a non-smelly flower arrangement, as she is sensitive to smells after her illness!! But so far, no pollen is in the air tickling my nose hairs! And I sure do love the colour combo of purple and yellow, and a smattering of red (there is a red ranunculus hidden in there). I was inspired by the front cover of the Real Simple magazine in November 2008. Anyway, we miss you, Helen - you are very important to us all, and we absolutely can't wait to see you!!

loverly baking cups

I saw this picture of muffin wrappers on Design Sponge, and I thought it was stunning! How can a picture of muffin wrappers pierce one's heart? Alas it did. I love the brown, muted exotic colour combination. Apparently, the chef, Sabra Krock, bought some of them in Israel. I'm definitely going to pick up a cup or two on my trip to Israel in August. Apparently some of them are also from this website - it has some really cool stuff if you look hard. Here are some of my favs:

the circus is coming!!

Finally!! I have been waiting so long to be able to share the invitations to our circus wedding! Each part took quite some time but it was so worth the wait! It started when I asked my bestest friend Rashmi to create a circus-inspired invite. With our mutual love of circus and her insanely creative artistic talents I had not a worry in the world it would turn out to be perfect. She suggested she try to make an old-fashioned circus poster and low and behold this masterpiece was created!!

Joelle Bloomer then took the full-sized painting and added her uber talented graphic touch. I searched long and hard for some "Admit One" tickets, and after a bit of a panic discovered that once again, the wonderful world of Etsy had not failed me! I purchased the blank admit one tickets in shades of yellow and brown from a few different vendors {withatwist and pinktwilight} but one in particular, schOOLLOcker gave me a free package of tickets as a wedding prezzie!!! It was so sweet! Thank you again!

Then I went out on a mission to find an "Admit One" stamp. I thought surely it would be an easy find...wrong again! But then Joelle Bloomer informed me her hubby's parents' company could order me a custom-made one! I finally received it {it was so adorable!} and then I had to practice my fine motor skills and stamp all those tiny tickets...wasn't easy to hit that little mark!!

So...without further ado...here they are!! We just love them so much and hope you do too!

happy anniversary to 'the breast darn show period'

It's hard to believe that two years can fly by in a jiffy. On Sunday it will have been two years since we held our breast cancer charity event, The Breast Darn Show Period, benefitting Willow Breast Cancer Support Canada. In honour of our mother who we lost to breast cancer a few years ago, and in honour of everyone who has been faced with the disease, it truly was a fabulous evening. Here are some photos from that night...from the pink carpet entrance, to the bras-on-a-clothesline decor, the amazing entertainment {including Shaye}, the incredible silent auction {that included a free trip to France for a tour of a vineyard!}, and the ever-popular Breastfast at Tiffany's sandbox of treasures, it was such a joyous, delightful, and postive event!

Not to mention the extremely large lacey bra constructed by our very creative and crafty grandmother! If anyone has been to The Fermenting Cellar in the Distillery District, I'm sure they have seen the 2 large 'vats' that portrude from the wall. Well when we saw them we just knew it was the perfect place to hold a breast cancer charity event! But the vats looked rather...errr...exposed, so the jumbo bra was born! Apparently the big ol' bra has a bit of a reputation; I met with a bride and groom last month who saw it in our portfolio and exclaimed 'You guys did that? Someone told us about the big bra!'. See below for the bra 'plan' we presented at a committee meeting, and a photo of the plan actualized.

In honour of the second anniversary, I updated the website a bit, which you can see here. Also if you want to see more pics, they are here! Be sure to yell a little cheer on Sunday for the Breast Darn Show Period. And feel free to borrow from our committee's cheery salute....Yay Boobies!

outside my apartment window...

...are the most beautiful and romantic-looking trees, worthy of being poladroid-ed! I can't get over how insanely amazing these trees are - I wish they would stay bloomin' all year round!

more new house inspiration

So, I've had a few people ask about the status of my new house...and the the status is (drumroll please)...a bobcat! Ground hasn't been broken yet, but hey, the laneways have all been put in and the fire hydrants are ready to go! I'm still dreamin' though about decor - here are some of my latest inspirations for our bedroom, living room, kitchen and office...

I love the black window above - I've seen this done alot lately. Pic above via inspiraton for everyday living blog

I loved this pic from Domino Magazine's last (sniff sniff) March 2009 issue - in their "Outfit to Room Transformations" article. Sorry about the crease in the middle, but this photo is no where to be found online and I had to scan it straight from my treasured mag!! I love almost everything about this room - the black windows again, the plain army green blanket, the brown leather chair and especially, the frond in the window!! Yummy!

This chandelier looks cool to me too, although my boyfriend thinks it looks like brillo pad!
